Farewell

It's hard to believe that this is my final blog post for this program.  When I first began this program in September, 2011, I can remember crying my eyes out because I had no idea how to make a blog or what an RSS feed was. That seems like so long ago. Throughout my time in this program, I have learned so much. Three things that will stick with me forever are:

I am always capable of insighting change.  I may be one person, but change can start with just one.

I am capable of far more than I ever thought I was. This program has made me work harder than I ever imagined, but I have accomplished more that I would have imagined as well!

Collaboration is key! I have worked with so many individuals who have shared their wisdom, whether it was professors, other students or my own colleagues who have helped me with interviews.  I have learned that I cannot do it alone and working with others is so much better!

A long-term goal I have for myself is to never stop developing as an educator. Before I started this program, I only attended professional develoment opportunities in order to renew my teaching license.  I have seen how much I have grown and changed through this program and I don't want to stop now!

To Dr. Teri and my colleagues,
Thank you for joining me on this final leg of our journey.  However, I don't feel like this is an ending, but just a beginning. This course pushed me to do more, think more and in different ways. I am grateful for that! Thank you to all of my colleagues for your input and help throughout this course. It's been quite a ride. Some of you have been in my classes since Day 1 (Sally Brooks). I wish each of you continued success and passion for the Early Childhood Field. "Thought is the wind, knowledge the sail, and mankind the vessel" ~Augustus Hare (Brainy Quote, 2001-2013).  Sail on my friends, sail on...

With appreciation,
Rachel

  1. I can completely relate to the feelings you had when you started this program as I too felt overwhelmed at the beginning my first online course. I now feel somewhat like an experienced blogger and online learner!!! We have come far in our educational journey at Walden University and I congratulate you on your accomplishment in obtaining your Master of Science Degree in Early Childhood Studies. Best wishes to you in your career and your future as an early childhood professional.

  2. Hello Rachel
We have not been in a class together for a long time. But I do remember the challenges that we had we it came to creating a blog. We have come a long way. I am glad that you exiting this program. You were always a positive and motivating person. I wish you success in your future. I know that you will be successful in whatever route you take in the early childhood field.

    Good Luck and Take Care!

  3. Hi Rachel!
Back in September, 2011, I can also remember wondering how successful I would be as an online learner. Thanks to early childhood educators like yourself being able to share helpful organizations that I was able to use in my community of practice. Congratulations on your success here at Walden! Keep up the great work and I wish you all of the success in the world!

  4. Rachel,
My transformation as a student has been enormous as well. It was frightening after so many years out of a classroom for me. During my first course it took me longer to figure out how to format than to write the paper. The tears for me were over inserting a header that needed to be different on the first page. Look how far we have come....it can only an indicator of how far we will go!

  7. Dear Rachel,

Thank you very much for the insights you gave me through the course. I can’t believe that we are already finishing. We learned a lot. This Walden blog was my first blog too. I hope you are able to achieve your goals!
